ABOUT US

Who We Serve

Since the HIV/AIDS Pandemic in 1982, many Ugandan women and children have suffered great hardship.

In their villages, they have been victims of disease, extreme poverty, domestic violence, and famine. Many have been emotionally, physically, and sexually abused, and in some cases, ritually tortured by those who believe in witch doctors.

These women and children flee to the cities and larger communities, searching for scraps of food, begging for coins, and when that fails, seeking gainful employment as bar maids, prostitutes, and pickpockets. Many children are abandoned and left to make their own way in the streets, without the proper skills to care for themselves or their younger siblings. Some are expectant mothers or already raising babies on the streets, leading to an even less civilized generation, less likely to integrate into society. Alcohol and drug abuse is prevalent.

Outreach

Our goal is to minimize the psychological and physical effects of poor health and the lack of education for children and their families who live in a high risk environment.

TCF rents a building that doubles as a rehabilitation center and housing for the orphans. This center provides food, clothing, shelter, and regular bathing. We conduct searches for relatives, to hopefully reunite the orphans with family members. For those that are truly displaced or abandoned, we take on the responsibility for their well-being. For those that have homes and families, but are destitute, we conduct home visits to ensure their needs are properly assessed and long-term goals for rehabilitation are appropriately set.

We also provide public health programs and education programs covering HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, anti-domestic violence, and income generation support to single mothers, single fathers, child-heads of households, etc. We strongly believe that if we stabilize and strengthen the families in our communities, we could greatly reduce, or even solve, many of these social challenges.

Yiga Isa Decent

Founder and Director

Yiga Isa Decent is the founder and director of TCF charity organization. however at age 12 he found himself needing help and direction after the death of his father. Having lived the street life, he has a personal understanding of the terrible situations that these children endure or go through. Yiga would not be standing here today if not for the kind hearted people that reached out to him at an impressionable age. They invested in him as a person by giving him an education that he strongly needed. This education gave him hope for a better future. This is where his life’s passion took root. He, along with other volunteers are committed to helping and better the life of street children, orphans and other vulnerable children in our communities.

He later joined a technical institute where he took a course in BPC/CONSTRUCTION, after that he commenced voluntary activities at Nkozankole Self-Reliance in Rakai District, and Moyo Children Center in Thika District in Kenya. He received a certificate in Communication and Development from Straight Talk Foundation Uganda, Peer Education from Save the Children and ACODEV as a Peer Educator in sexuality education for youths. He also completed a certificate in Information and Communication Technology from KiBo foundation. It was there, that his desire grew stronger to help displaced children. There was still a great social need in the area that he grew up from (Nyendo) in Masaka district. He is now using all the experience and education he has gathered over the years to take hands on helping the needy.

In 2011 his vision started to take shape as he took action. He started his mission by approaching these children within their current environment which included trenches, unfinished houses and other ill areas, where he would counsel and educate them to the best of his ability. He struggled to rehabilitate them. Along so many challenges He however continued to fight for their need to enter elementary primary schools as a way of reducing illiteracy among the needy (orphans, street children and destitutes). Yiga started to be the voice of hope and change. With the little he had, he was determined to bring about a positive change, still without a facility base, he teamed up with other volunteers and in a matter of months great changes were recorded. There was a reduction in violence, reduction in illegal drug use and other substances in our communities most especially among these disadvantaged groups.

Currently, the organization is renting a building that doubles as a rehabilitation center and also as a shelter for these children. Because on the street they do not bathe, wash their clothes, or eat properly, we at the center strive to offer all these. We strongly do Home visits because plays a major role in assessing, planning and evaluating the level of development needed by these children in our different communities after rehabilitation. As an organization we go out into the communities to find relatives of these children to hopefully to re-unit them back with their families. For those that do not have families the organization is responsible for their well-fair (education, shelter, feeding and medical care).

Join Us

Our mission can only be accomplished through the joint efforts of volunteers and financial supporters. While volunteers graciously pick up the vision, it takes finances to feed, clothe, and house these precious children. We invite you to partner with us to ensure these needs are met and that hope returns to this region.
